A number of changes were made to the subclass 858 visa (Distinguished Talent Visa) On 14 November 2020.

The subclass 858 visa is for those who have an internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in a profession, a sport, the arts or academia and research.

The Department of Home Affairs has changed the visa in three ways:

The subclass 124 visa has been repealed and you can now apply for an 858 visa from anywhere. (Including overseas)

The changes allow for people on a wider range of visas to apply for the 858 visa. People on bridging visas A, B or C may now apply as well as other visas.

The health criteria for the 858 visa has also changed, essentially meaning people with health conditions will be more likely to secure a visa.
