The Pandemic Event visa will be discontinued in February next year and from September 2, only current holders of the visa can apply.

The Federal Government said it intends to restructure Australia’s migration system according to the needs of the Australian people and ceasing the visa is necessary to allow for more skilled, family and study visa places.

“The Pandemic Event visa was an important part of Australia’s visa system during the pandemic,” Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, Andrew Giles said.

“Many people on temporary visas helped Australia during this period. We’re providing an opportunity for people who hold a Pandemic Event visa to explore another visa option, or plan to leave Australia.”

New applications for the Pandemic Event visa will be valid for 6 months and will cost A$405 to apply.

If you are currently holding a COVID visa and seeking to apply for a different visa, you will need to meet the criteria for that visa.

Those who do not meet the requirements for a further visa to stay in Australia will need to depart the country as soon as the visa expires.

There are a range of visa options available to migrants in order to extend their stay in Australia.

Many migrants choose to study at one of Australia’s world-class universities or vocational education and training institutes and graduates can apply to live and work in the country after they finish studying.
