New Parent Visa Update – No Balance of Family Test

The Australian Government has made good on its election promise from 21st June 2016 to deliver an enhanced Visa temporary parent visa.

Assistant Immigration Minister Alex Hawke said the “This new visa is designed to allow the parents of Australians to spend longer time with their children in Australia.

 

Many Australian citizens and Permanent residents want to bring their parents to Australia.

But until now many could not pass the “Balance of Family Test” for Parent Visa applications – that 50% or more of the parent’s children should be “permanent residents or citizens” of Australia.

The visa will be available for either 3 years or 5 years. The visa can also be extended up to 10 years maximum.

The new visa is expected to be implemented later in 2017 subject to migration amendment ( Family, Violence and Other Measures) Bill 2016 being passed through parliament during the winter session.
