International students have longer visas and time spent studying online overseas now counts towards acquiring a Temporary Graduate visa (Subclass 485), after extensive changes made by the Department of Immigration.

Masters by coursework students on a Subclass 485 visa have three years to stay in Australia with no restrictions on how much they work,  if you are overseas and if you currently hold a student visa, you may apply for the 485 visa.

If you have a 485 visa but went overseas because of the Covid 19 pandemic, you may apply for an extension of your visa if that visa expired on or after the 1st of February 2020.

In the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, 485 Temporary Graduate visas now last 2 years.

The Innovation Development Fund, which provides short-term targeted support to private English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) providers will receive $9.4 million, to diversify their education offerings into online and offshore delivery.
