18 October Invitation rounds

The Department of Immigration has released 18th October round results for the visa subclass 189 (Skilled Independent) and 489 (Skilled Family Sponsored). EasyMigrate’s Visa Manager & RMA Ms Christa Blignaut has reviewed these results:

Under the subclass 189 (Skilled Independent) visa, 1250 invitations were issued in total with only 5 invitations under the subclass 489 (Skilled Family Sponsored) visa.  This means that most places were taken by the subclass 189 visa as it gets preference over the subclass 489 visa.  It brings the total number of invitation under the General Skilled Migration Pathway 189 and 489 to 1255.  This is an increase of 203 invitations since 4 October round.  The total invitations for the month of October are standing at 2557.

For this round, most invitations (more than 400) were to applicants who have 75 points.  Approximately 375 invites were to applicants on 70 points with approximately 350 on 65 points.  Only 75 invites were to applicants on 80 points with only 20 on 85 points.

For the occupations subject to pro-rata arrangements, nothing has changed on the points score front since the previous invitation round with the exception of Accountants which are at a point score of 75 for applications with a visa date of effect of 4 September 2017.  Accountants were excluded from the previous round and had a point score of 85 in the invitation round before that on the 20th of September 2017.  This is good news for Accountants”!

The table below shows the number of invitations issued in the SkillSelect invitation round on 18 October 2017.

Separate results for these visa subclasses are provided monthly.

The following graph shows the points for clients who were invited to apply in the 18 October 2017 round.

Invitation process and cut offs

The highest ranked clients by points score are invited to apply for the relevant visa. For clients who have equal points scores, the time at which they reached their points score for that subclass (referred to as the visa date of effect) determines their order of invitation. Expressions of Interest with earlier dates of effect are invited before later dates.

Visa Subclass Points score Visa date of effect
Skilled – Independent (subclass 189) 65 28/09/2017 10.53 pm
Skilled – Regional Provisional (subclass 489) 70 08/08/2017  3.49 pm

Due to high levels of demand, and in keeping with previous years, the below occupation groups will be subject to pro rata arrangements to ensure availability of invitations across the program year. SkillSelect first allocates available places to Skilled – Independent visas (subclass 189) and then the remaining to Skilled – Regional (Provisional) visas (subclass 489). If all places are taken up by subclass 189 visas then there will be no invitations issued for subclass 489 visas in these occupations.
