Promoting Australia as a destination for business migrants:
The Australian Government has special visa categories to attract genuine business people to Australia under the Business Skills Migration program. This should provide advantages for both the business migrant and for Australia. Australia is THE place to live and do business - with its massive natural resources, wide open spaces, clean and safe environment plus excellent education and healthcare. Australia offers a great and relaxed lifestyle. There are first-rate recreational and cultural activities. Business migrants can feel proud to be part of such a diverse and multicultural society, and can contribute considerably towards Australia's economy and export drive.
The Business Skills Migration program focuses on business people with proven record in business. It looks at the applicant's experience as successful business or investment owner, or Senior Executive.
What must Business Migrants do after they Arrive in Australia?
The expectation is that they will:
- Establish a new business; or
- Become an owner or part-owner of an existing business in Australia with a significant level of ownership; and
- Actively participate in the management of the business; or
- Having established a successful business as a temporary resident, remain in Australia permanently to continue that business.
Business migration, exept for Business Talent Visa, is a two stage process: provisional and permanent. The provisional visas are granted for four years and during that time the holders must establish a succesful business or investment activity in Australia in order to qualify for permanent residence. The Business Talent Visa holders have permanent residence status but they are monitored after their arrival in Australia. Where no significant steps have been taken towards engaging in business within the first three years of arrival, the Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs has the power to cancel their visa.
