This visa is usually granted as an "interim" visa to allow travel for Australian Permanent residents whose visa is about to expire but they not eligible for the Five Year Resident Return Visa. To meet the eligibility requirement for a Three-Month Resident Return visa:

• You have been less than 2 years out of the last 5 years in Australia as a permanent resident, but you have spend at least 1 day in Australia

  AND

• You must have compelling and compassionate reasons for departing Australia

  OR

• If offshore, you must have had compelling and compassionate reasons for last departure from Australia more than 3 months ago
